2025 will be the 23rd year of Adventures in Chamber Music!!
What is chamber music? Music composed for a smaller space, or a chamber. There is one person on a part, and no conductor. Each part is equally important. It has been described as "the music of friends" and is considered the most intimate way to make music.
The purpose of Adventures in Chamber Music is to refine listening skills and playing abilities in each camper. Music is carefully chosen to challenge each group, without being overwhelming. During a session, the groups will be led by a coach and rehearse on their own. They learn how to approach any problems in the music by reading the score and breaking down the music to fully understand how it is put together. The groups play for each other twice before the final concert to get used to the challenges of performing. By the end of camp, each ensemble will be able to play their pieces together and express their musical ideas.
ACM is open to students from 4th through 12th grades. All levels of playing are welcome. Campers should be able to read music and have at least one year of instruction on their instrument. The instruction can be through school or private lessons. Groups are formed by experience. Existing ensembles are encouraged to attend. We try to create a friendly and encouraging environment for each camper and ensemble.
The next camp date will be July 7 through 18, 2025. There are two separate sessions; 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Campers may sign up for one or two sessions for double the fun! Tuition includes a binder of music, daily snack and an ACM t-shirt. The camp takes place in Royal Oak, Michigan.
